Follow these top tips to keep your dog calm during fireworks.

OPTIMISM PRIMING
Create an optimist by pairing every noise you hear throughout the day with a treat. For example the birds singing, knocking, clatter in the kitchen, no matter how big or small, pair it with treats so by the time the fireworks arrive your dog is feeling optimistic about noises!

WALK DURING DAYLIGHT
As soon as it starts getting dark this is usually when the fireworks start, don’t get caught out!

CALMING ACTIVITIES
Kongs and other food toys are a great calming activity. Also allowing your dog to have some quite time in their favourite spot.

COMFORT YOUR DOG
Always comfort your dog if they seek it, they do not know what is happening.

PREPARE FOR NEXT TIME
1. Start introducing OPTIMISM PRIMING weeks, or even months before firework season to keep your dog calm during fireworks.
2. You can play quiet soundtracks of noises while your dog is eating a kong or food toy.
3. Ditch the bowl and start pairing all noises and novelty with food at home and out and about, this will create a bombproof dog!
